Achieving Quantum Hands-On Experience
The aim of this introductory lesson is to equip you with the skills to build and run a quantum program using IBM’s Quantum Platform with minimal prior knowledge. By the end of this post, you’ll have crafted your first quantum circuit on an actual quantum processor!
Start your journey by setting up an IBM quantum account. It’s as simple as heading to the IBM Quantum Platform and signing up. You’ll gain extraordinary tools: 10 free minutes of Qiskit runtime and an API token to connect directly with quantum systems.
Setting Up Your Quantum Environment
Our coding space will be the user-friendly Google Colab, perfect for executing Python-based notebooks without the complexities of local installations. Install essential Qiskit packages including visualization tools and IBM Runtime to test your circuits on simulators or real hardware.
Building Your First Quantum Circuit
Using the IBM Quantum Composer, we’ll construct a fundamental quantum circuit. Our focus will be on introducing quantum gates—specifically the Hadamard gate and CNOT gate—to produce what’s known as a Bell state. This exercise introduces you to “superposition” and “entanglement,” the mystical phenomena of quantum physics.
Running Your Quantum Circuit
We’ll guide you through writing code that interfaces with IBM’s quantum systems. A helper function will optimize and execute your circuit, providing measurement results that reflect the enchanting world of quantum states. Watch as your results form a histogram displaying quantum entanglement in action.
