Quantum computing doesn’t usually make headlines three times in one month, across three continents. But this September, D-Wave Quantum Inc. (NYSE: QBTS) is doing just that—stepping onto major stages at SEMICON Taiwan, the Quantum World Congress in Washington, D.C., and FintechNation 25 in Dublin.

Now, this isn’t just a whirlwind speaking tour for the sake of visibility. It’s a move that speaks volumes about where D-Wave thinks the quantum conversation should be going — and where it’s already landed.

For years, the quantum space has been marked by hype—promises of breakthroughs that always seem to be about five years away. D-Wave, however, is doing something a little… subversive, honestly. They’re focusing on the now—the messy, practical, already-in-use part of quantum computing that most people still think is stuck in the lab.

Instead of waiting for pure gate-model systems to mature (those are the ones often hyped as the ultimate endgame), D-Wave has leaned into annealing-based systems and hybrid solutions that pair quantum and classical computing. In real-world terms, they’re helping companies solve actual optimization problems—from logistics to AI to materials science—right now.

And by showing up across Asia, North America, and Europe in the same month, they’re not just demonstrating presence. They’re planting a very intentional flag in the ground: quantum is global, applicable, and already in motion.

  • SEMICON Taiwan (Sept 11): CEO Alan Baratz will draw a direct connection between quantum computing and the semiconductor industry. It’s a clear signal: this isn’t blue-sky theory. It’s tech that’s already plugging into complex hardware and delivering business value.
  • Quantum World Congress (Sept 17): Senior scientist Andrew King will share a panel with U.S. government and industry leaders, talking real-world quantum applications — not hypotheticals. Expect the conversation to push beyond the usual “what if” narrative.
  • FintechNation 25 (Sept 19): VP Murray Thom is taking the conversation into the blockchain and financial services world, hinting at research suggesting annealing-based quantum computing could reduce the massive energy load of blockchain technology. That’s not just innovation; that’s strategic disruption.

This isn’t just a PR roadshow. It’s a coordinated effort to shift the entire tone of the quantum conversation.

A few things jump out:

  • D-Wave isn’t waiting for theoretical perfection. They’re focused on what can be solved today — and they’ve got more than 200 million quantum problems solved in their cloud to back that up.
  • They’re one of the very few companies building both annealing and gate-model systems. That dual-path strategy gives them range and resilience — especially as enterprise demand starts to meet quantum’s capabilities in the middle.
  • They’re aligning with global stakeholders. Governments, industries, researchers — this is the kind of cross-sector engagement that turns emerging tech into infrastructure.

This fall, we may see a shift in the quantum story: away from “someday” potential and toward measurable, current value. D-Wave’s betting big on the idea that showing up with proof, not just promise, is what will matter most.

And they’re doing it with clarity, purpose, and an obvious message:
