Quantum circuits, and the future of quantum technology in the cloud

Dr. Jay Gambetta discusses IBM’s approach to quantum information processing systems.

In this talk, I will introduce three key metrics for quantum circuits – quality, capacity and variety, where the quality is how well the quantum circuits are implemented in a quantum system, the capacity is how many circuits can run on a quantum system per unit time, and the variety is how many different kind of circuits can be implemented in a quantum system.

I will discuss how the three metrics play an important role in quantum computing by increasing the accuracy of the results, allowing us to run complex algorithms within a reasonable time such that we can use the quantum computer for practical applications, and reducing the quantum computational overhead for quantum advantage. At the end of the talk, I will show the future directions for the quantum computing where we exploit both quantum and classical resources together to maximize the quality, capacity, and variety of quantum computing.
